We were expecting a couple of inches of snow yesterday, but ended up getting upwards of a foot here at the Blue Heron Whitewater outpost on the French Broad River near Asheville, NC. That's a lot of snow for around here and it gave us the opportunity to dust off our skis and snowshoes and go play in the snow. And although the snow will be long gone before the

whitewater rafting season is in full swing, the slowly melting snow will help recharge the the groundwater. So when it rains this spring and summer the water will go into the river instead of into the ground. And water in the river is easier to raft on then water in the ground.
